Alabama has a new secretary of state, but he's a familiar face in state government.

Jim Bennett took the oath of office at 5:01 this afternoon at the Alabama Capitol.

Bennett was secretary of state from 1993 to 2003 and before that, served in the Legislature for 14 years.

Gov. Robert Bentley appointed Bennett to finish the term of Beth Chapman, who resigned to work for the Alabama Farmers Federation.

Bennett says he will not run in next year's election.
