Jubilee CityFest: More than 10,000 At Free Fireworks and Concert

For the first time in more than 20 years, Jubilee CityFest 2012 did not charge people to see the festival’s concerts or fireworks.

Saturday afternoon the crowds at Jubilee were not as big as expected, but by the end of the night, hundreds were pouring in the entrance. By the time Bama’s Big Bang lit up the sky, Jubilee coordinators said the Riverfront reached full capacity, with more than 10,000 people inside, and had to shut the gates for the first time in several years.

The big appeal about Jubilee was the free factor. Jubilee coordinators said it decided to not charge for the outing so more people could experience the shows with their families. The festival featured entertainment from country artist Joseph Baldwin, jazz band Spyro Gyro, and classic rock groups Sister Hazel and Brick.

Jubilee said the last day of the festival kept Jubilee true to its roots, bringing people out to downtown Montgomery and getting those same people to keep coming out to boost growth in Montgomery’s economy.

They didn't charge because the Creek Casino's paid the entrance fees...
