Alabama Department of Corrections officials say three laptops and four guns have been stolen from state-owned buildings across the street from three correctional facilities.

Department spokesman Brian Corbett said Monday that thieves broke into a Department of Corrections farm office and used equipment from there to gain entry to a dog kennel, where a gun safe was raided.

Corbett says the buildings that were burglarized are near the Draper, Elmore and Staton correctional facilities and are not monitored by surveillance cameras.

Corbett says Department of Corrections employees reported the burglary early Monday morning and officials are taking inventory to determine if anything else is missing.
