I-65 Exit Ramp ReopensUpdate: The exit ramp which had been shutdown at the Interstate 65/Interstate 85 interchange has been reopened. For nearly seven hours, Montgomery Police closed the ramp after an 18-wheeler overturned, creating major Memorial Day weekend traffic delays. Traffic engineering crews assessed the structural integrity of the ramp before reopening. The 18-wheeler overturned and was hanging off the I-65 South Mobile loop Saturday afternoon. Backed up traffic was rerouted to I-65 North all day. Montgomery Police are investigating the cause of the turnover, but officers say preliminary investigations show speed may be a factor. According to the driver of the truck was not injured. This is a developing story, there will be more information as it becomes available. |

Not the first time this has happened. It was a regular occurrence when I lived in Montgomery in the 1990s. Some truckers take the ramp way too fast. I saw several wobble from side to side. The over speed trucks who make it will get into wrecks on the Interstate trying to merge into traffic.
