The man who faced off with Gov. George Wallace at the schoolhouse door nearly 50 years ago has died.

Nicholas Katzenbach worked in the Justice Department under President Kennedy. He's the balding man on the right side in this photograph.

He confronted Wallace over racial intergration at the University of Alabama, which Wallace opposed. Wallace refused to move from the door of Foster Auditorium until President Kennedy called in the national guard.

Katzenbach was 90 years old.
