Running Off Thanksgiving Calories Early at 5K Turkey Burner

By CBS-8 Reporter

Walkers and runners showed up for the 12th Annual Turkey Burner 5K hosted by MetroFitness and Montgomery Multi-Sport.

To be involved, participants were asked to bring two or more items of canned food to be donated to the Montgomery Food Bank.

The race director, Greg Miles, says it's important for people to do these kinds of races for a couple of reasons.

"One is the cause, it raises money for Tres Ministries, it also raises money for the Montgomery Food Bank," Miles said. He also says doing a big run before the winter helps get "yourself healthy and your body ready to go."

The money raised in Saturday's race will be distrubuted across area charities.

The top three male and female runners, and the top masters and grandmasters were awarded a 'Turkey' trophy.
