Management at a Montgomery apartment complex has found a way to get all of their residents to clean up after their dogs.

Joe Johnson, the property manager at Legends at Taylor Lakes, says dog owners now have to register their pets' DNA.

It's done with a company called PooPrints, which is located in Knoxville, Tennessee, where they keep a database of doggie DNA.

PooPrints charges $29.95 to register each dog and $49.95 to process a sample found on the property.

Johnson says they haven't passed along the registration cost to their residents, but if they find a feces offender they'll be fined $150.

"Having a cleaner community, having safer playground areas for the children to play on, and just going out for a walk. It's going to make their community cleaner," said Johnson.

Johnson says they haven't had to take any samples or fine any resident since the program was put in place six weeks ago.
