Montgomery Police Make an Arrest in 33rd Homicide
Shot over a $20 Debt

MONTGOMERY — The Montgomery Police Department has made an arrest in the

July 29, 2013, shooting death of 33-year-old Ernest Belser.

At about 5:15 p.m. on Monday, July 29, Montgomery Police and Fire Medics responded

to the 3900 block of Norman Bridge Road after receiving a report of a subject shot. There

they located the victim, Belser, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was

pronounced dead at the scene.

Amendo Smith, 26, of Montgomery was identified as a suspect after further investigation

indicated that the shooting stemmed from an ongoing altercation between the victim and

suspect over a drug debt of $20.00.

Amendo Smith turned himself into MPD detectives during the early morning hours of

July 30, 2013 and was charged with one count of capital murder. Following his arrest,

Smith was transported to the Montgomery County Detention Facility, where he is being

held without bond.

Belser’s death is Montgomery’s 33rd homicide of 2013. No additional information is

available for release relative to this ongoing investigation.

Note: A criminal charge is an accusation. The defendant is assumed innocent unless and

until proven guilty.
