People in Montgomery will again be lacing up their running shoes.

The city is holding a half-marathon October 6. It is a certified race that will start in front of the Renaissance Hotel and end at Riverwalk Stadium.

Runners are encouraged to sign up early. Starting Saturday morning at 5:30, there will be pre-race training in front of Dreamland BBQ.

"There's not any one event that we do in Montgomery, Alabama, that I get more thanks and testimonials about. People have come to me and said this event has saved my life, it saved my marriage, it's helped me lose weight. I get e-mail after e-mail, letter after letter thanking us for putting this event on," Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange said.

The race benefits the Red Cross and the Joy to Life Foundation. It's being put on by Hyundai.
