Montgomery Preps For Half Marathon

In about a month, runners will start at the Alley and make their way around downtown Montgomery and end at Riverwalk Stadium for the Montgomery Half Marathon.

The city is expecting about 1,500 runners this year. That brings a lot of money into town through hotels and restaurants, but it does something else for the city too.

"We've got that tangible dollar that it brings in but also the change in behavior, lifestyle change. We're not proud of our obesity rating. I don't know if it's the good food in Montgomery or what it is," said Steve Jones, director of general services.

And runners in town are already excited about the race. There's also a mile run designed for kids in the area that PE teachers have been training them for.

"I think it is wonderful. In Alabama we've got a lot of obesity cases going on. We're leading the nation and this is something new. We want our kids to be lifelong fitness people and lifelong runners. People who care about their health. I think it's wonderful that they're doing it here in Montgomery," said Victor Crowell.

If you're interested in finding out more about the marathon or registering, you can find all that information at montgomerymarathon.com.
