Montgomery Public Schools Reaction to School Accountability Act

By Ellis Eskew

Governor Robert Bentley has now signed a bill into law to give parents tax credits to shift their children from failing public schools into other schools, even private ones.

How could this impact school systems -- like Montgomery Public Schools?

We asked Superintendent Barbara Thompson.

She says there are still a lot of unanswered questions. But she hopes there will be amendments to this bill because it will definitely cost public schools across the state.

"I think unfortunately it doesn't really help students in our districts as much as they might think. I believe its going to be costly for public school. And I think there may be some amendments. I hope they consider provisions in terms of kids transferring into any special ed provisions," said Thompson.

Thompson says she has been meeting with legislators and discussing ways to help schools.
