The city of Montgomery’s first murder of 2012 occurred after an early morning altercation Saturday in a neighborhood near Bellingrath Park.

In a statement released Saturday, the Montgomery Police Department said police units responded to 101 N. Haardt Drive at approximately 4:17 a.m. in reference to a shooting. After arriving, they located the victim, 46-year old Gary Blackwell, of 141 Turner Place, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Police say Blackwell was pronounced dead on the scene. They believe Blackwell was involved in an unknown type of altercation.
