A Montgomery organization opened a community center aimed at fighting violence and reducing crime in its neighborhood.

Connecting the Body of Christ Fellowship officially opened the "Connecting Life" Center on West Edgemont Street Saturday afternoon.

Organizers said they want to combat the crime rate in the Ridgecrest area.

They say they hope the new community center will be a safe space for local leaders and residents to talk about those challenges and how to fix them.
