New Restaurants Invade Montgomery

Tools

By Ashley Thompson

Several new restaurants have opened in Montgomery over the past couple months and more are slated to open this year. So how is Montgomery attracting all of these restaurants?

Joe Hoeniges is the "people's manager" at Newks café on Vaughn and Taylor Road. He says since opening in October, the reception has only been good.

"Montgomery loves us and we love them and yeah, it's been very positive."

And Newks isn't the only new eatery in town. Several restaurants have opened in the Shoppes at EastChase, including a Firebirds. Jimmy Johns is scheduled to open in the spring at the corner of Carter Hill and Narrow Lane Road. Reginald Hardy works right next door at Winn-Dixie and says he's looking forward to the new sandwich shop

"I did meet the owner and he did give samples of sandwiches and it was great."

A Shrimp Basket is replacing the old Flips on Vaughn and Taylor, while right behind it, in the Sturbridge shopping center, another Chicken Salad Chick is slated to open. A Full Moon BBQ and a Buffalo Wild Wings are also coming to the Capitol City. Michael Briddell with the Mayor's Office, says the growing number of restaurants validates Montgomery.

"These corporations, before they make a major investment like building a restaurant, ask a whole lot of questions and do a whole lot of research," he explains. "Are there enough people in this community? Is there enough disposable income that people are going to be able to go out and enjoy a meal on the town?"

Although there are new places to dine, some people we spoke with say they'd like even more.

"Dave N Busters, Joe's Crab Shack and Cheesecake Factory," says Montgomery resident Marcell Jennings.

"I would like to see Jamba Juice and In-N-Out Burger," says Patrick Fran. "I used to be in California so those were two big restaurants there."

We would love to see a CHEDDAR'S come to Montgomery. They have locations in Columbus, Ga. and Tuscaloosa. We have eaten at the location in Pigeon Forge, Tn. It's affordable, a good variety on the menu and the food is excellent.

I'm very happy that India Palace returned to Montgomery last month. The first weekend they were open they served 900 customers! Last night my wife and I went to India Palace. They had a special Valentine's Day menu, and it was wonderful--and reasonably priced.
