Celebrity judges picked Phil’s BBQ from Eufala out of seven area barbecue sauces as the finalist in a regional competition to pick Alabama’s tastiest sauce. It will represent the area at the state championship on May 18 in Birmingham.

A panel of celebrity judges, including Alabama News Network Weekend Anchor Heather VacLav, sampled sauces from Berdeaux’s, Fat Boy’s, Mike & Ed’s, Mike Elliott’s, Noodie’s, Phil’s and the BBQ Shack. Staff members of the Alabama Tourism Department collected 34 different brands of barbecue sauce for the statewide contest

The BBQ Sauce-Off in Montgomery, one of four regional competitions across the state, was held Saturday during the Southern Makers festival.  Viper barbecue sauce was the finalist in the Mobile regional competition held earlier. Other competitions will occur next Saturday at farmers markets in Decatur and Tuscaloosa.
