Authorities have recaptured a Talladega inmate who escaped from a facility in eastern Alabama.

Alabama Department of Corrections spokesman Brian Corbett said 21-year-old Joseph Lee Rainey was captured Thursday evening at a retail store on Highway 280 in Alexander City after a family member alerted authorities to his whereabouts.

State corrections officials say he escaped from the Alexander City Community Based Facility about 1:30 p.m. Thursday, about an hour after they did a head count.

Rainey is serving a two-year sentence stemming from charges in Talladega County. Details of Rainey's alleged crime were not available Thursday night.

Alexander City is about 55 miles north of Montgomery, in Tallapoosa County.
