Propane Gas in High Demand for Local Poultry Farmers

Tools

By Ellis Eskew

With the cold temperatures, the demand for propane gas is at an all time high.

The supply can't come fast enough for poultry farmers.
Brown Farms in Montgomery County raises chickens.
They need propane to help keep their baby chicks at a required 90 degrees.
But the cold weather has put a strain on getting the supply of propane to farms like these.
Now the Alabama Propane Gas Association is working with other agencies to help.

Lisa Fountain, Executive Director, tells us, "I want consumers to understand there is not a shortage of propane gas, which is being reported. Not a shortage in the state of Alabama. What there is, is a logistical problem with transportation."

The U.S. Department of Energy has released a declaration to help ease restrictions on propane delivery trucks.
Officials say the situation is mainly a concern for major consumers like farmers and should not have an impact on the average customer.
