Residents Clean Up Hope Hull Neighborhood

Flooding streets and houses, abandoned homes and litter plague a Hope Hull neighborhood.

But this weekend residents pulled together to make a change.

The Lagos del Sol neighborhood does an annual clean-up, but this year is special. Montgomery county leaders are now addressing drainage issues that have only added to the mess. Flood water washes trash into the streets.

The Hope Hull subdivision could be eligible for grant money, but is not likely until the area's cleaned up. So, residents from young to old pitched in all day Saturday to help pick up.

Johnnie Brown, who's lived in the neighborhood for 22 years said, "If you can get the kids involved and get them to have pride in their neighborhood, soon or later you will see them going out on their own and picking up the trash. I've seen it happen."

Residents in the subdivision are able to leave things they don't want. out on the street in front of their homes for a special garbage pick up Monday.
