Rosa Parks' Name Might be Removed from Library
Officials in Montgomery want to rename the Rosa L. Parks Avenue Branch Library. If approved by the city council, the library would be renamed the Bertha Pleasant Williams Branch Library after the city's first black librarian. The Montgomery Advertiser reports that the library's board unanimously voted to change the name in May and the County Commission approved the change this week.

Thomas McPherson, chairman of the library's board of directors, said the library is named after the street it's on. Its previous name was the Cleveland Avenue Branch Library, but was changed when the street was changed to Rosa Parks Avenue.
Local historian Mary Ann Neely said the name change would not be disrespectful to the legacy of Parks, who has a library and museum named for her downtown.
