Saban Wants Fans To Stay Awhile

By Sarah Cantey

It's been an impressive season for the Crimson Tide so far. But Coach Nick Saban seems anything but impressed by the fan base.

The tide's been rolling to victory, but as the score goes up the fans file out.
Matt Visintin, a sophomore said, "I try to stay until about midway through the third but when you look around it's usually if not completely empty, pretty much half way empty in the student section cause everyone knows what's going to happen."
Sam Donnell, a graduate student said, "Saban preaches complacency and how you are not going suspended to get complacent and our students have gotten complacent with it."
And now Saban is speaking directly to the fans.
Nick Saban said, "You know I talk about the players playing for 60 minutes in a game, competing for 60 minutes in a game and I think that in some kind of way everybody that chooses to go to the game should stay there and support the team for the game."
Tyler Howard, a junior said, "It kind of cheapens the value when people leave early and also I think a lot of it has to do with block seating. I mean I kind of think it is unfair that you reserve a whole block and then they leave early. It kind of leaves us in the dark."
The university isn't overlooking that, reserved seating has been suspended for 20 student organizations this Saturday. A move to fill up empty seats that Coach Saban says could hurt the tide's talent in the future.
Saban said, "We have lots of recruits there we like to see enthusiastic full stadium."
Matt Visintin said, "I don't see it hurting recruit classes cause I mean who wouldn't want to come play here. If you have the talent to come play here, I wouldn't look at the crowd and be like 'oh there's noone there i dont want to play there."
If anyone took Saban's comments to heart, or if suspended block seating does the trick, we'll have to wait and see how that student section is looking after the second half on Saturday.
