Security Increases at Montgomery Movie Theaters Following Colorado Mass Shooting

The Colorado movie theater massacre is miles away from Alabama, but is not far from people's minds. Today, Montgomery Police are responding to keep you safe at the theater.

Lines started to form outside the Rave Motion Pictures early Friday afternoon and many in the crowd were looking forward to one movie, "The Dark Knight Rises".
 
Despite the tragedy during that movie at a theater in Aurora, Colorado, Bernard Richmond is one of many still eager to bring his son to see it.

"My son wanted to see it. I wasn't going to deprive him from seeing the movie because someone acted up over there," said Richmond.

While the crime scene is 1,500 miles from this theater, for many it is a wake up call.

"Pray for the families that went out because that could've happened here," said Willie Harvis, who attended the movie.

Montgomery Police Chief Kevin Murphy agrees, saying copycat situations are of concern right now.

"Maybe not someone trying to kill a large group of people, but trying to set off panic or alarm," said Chief Murphy.

So he says they are reacting, meeting with local movie theater mangers, discussing security issues, and also increasing the police presence for what is expected to be a busy weekend at the box office.

"I've had some phone calls today and I've had some people come up to me in public and share their concerns about this. We are going to keep a very close eye out on our citizens," said Chief Murphy.

He says they've set no timetable for how long they will increase the police presence at movie theaters. He says it will be based on the crowds.
