State Prison Commissioner Warns of 18,000 Prisoner Releases Due to Lack of FundingAlabama Prison Commissioner Kim Thomas says 18,000 inmates would have to be released unless lawmakers find a way to fill a $184 million gap in the Department of Correction's funding. Thomas says it will be a public safety issue if 18,000 out of the 25,000 inmates are back out on the street if the budget plan approved by the Alabama Senate is put into effect. The governor's office released a statement saying the pending general fund budget is unworkable saying, "We will continue working with lawmakers and agencies on ideas that seek to make the most effective use of the resources we have available."

something has to be done, sooner or later the department of corruption's time bomb is going to explode, and its because of sheer greed and God is about to move on the behalf of those who are his!!!

it is amazing that just because some inmates have made bad choices in life that they will continue to make bad choices if they are released.it is some inmates that have been in there for over fifteen years and they took the steps to rehab themselves. if the state wants to make money, release some of them; the state is going to charge then a fine anyway. there is some of your money there, do the math. 30 a month for 2000 inmates=720,000 and so on.

the focus should be on rehabiltation not how much money they can make by locking up citizens on non violent charges for free labor basically modernized slavery let the truth be known no one cares about these indivisuals unless it is one of their loved ones lets put it all in GOD hands the real Judge where we can be safe knowing real jusice is severd follow your heart not the pocket of those less fortunate in any case
