Sen. Bryan Taylor (R-Prattville) is proposing an amendment to the Alabama Constitution that would set term limits for legislators.

Taylor had asked the Constitutional Revision Commission to recommend term limits. But in a 7 to 6 vote, the idea failed.

However, Taylor says the bill will still go to the legislature and lawmakers will make the final decision.

"We need to make sure that every now and then, we inject new blood -- fresh thinking into the legislature, and term limits is the only way to do that. Particularly when you there is so much money in politics today that the longer you stay here the more entrenched you become. We need to give new candidates a fresh opportunity to come here and serve," Taylor told CBS 8 News.

Taylor also pushed a measure for term limits in the last two legislative sessions, but failed.
