Three Legislators Want Information about ASU Contracts

Three legislators have filed a Freedom of Information request for any contracts Alabama State University may have signed with public officials or their relatives.

State Rep. Jay Love (R-Montgomery), State Sen. Dick Brewbaker (R-Montgomery) and State Sen. Trip Pittman (R-Daphne) are on a legislative education committee.

Love tells CBS 8 News that general allegations have been made that something improper may be going on, and says they want to make sure taxpayer money is being spent properly at ASU.

The next step - ASU will have to contact the education committee about its request.

The university has been under scrutiny ever since placing President Joseph Silver on leave last month. Silver says the action was taken because he says there was financial wrongdoing at ASU.
