Trouble Catching Cabs After Midnight in Montgomery

Tools

By CBS-8 Reporter

Some Montgomery residents say downtown nightlife is suffering because of unreliable taxi service in the capitol city.

Bar-goers tell CBS 8 cabs either do not answer or don't show up when they call for a safe ride home after midnight. "They will be waiting on the sidewalk and even waiting for buses" said Jordan Anderson who goes out on the weekends in Montgomery.

One reason taxi cab companies say they don't jump to pick up drunk riders,  is that bars will call multiple cabs and only the first to show up gets any business, and that means money lost in gas since they don't stay parked outside the nightlife scene after midnight. No cab company CBS 8 News got in touch with was willing to go on-camera about their services.

So far this year there have been about 90 DUI arrests by Montgomery Police, last year there were more than 200.
