Will Voters Approve Constitutional Amendment for General Fund Budget?

By CBS 8 News

The Alabama General Fund budget for the new fiscal year faces a critical test at the ballot box.

As we've reported, voters will decide in September whether to transfer money from the Alabama Trust Fund to the general fund.

When CBS 8 News hit the streets to find out if people will approve that, everyone we talked with said no. Instead, many folks say they think the state should look elsewhere for money.

That vote happens September 18th. If the money transfer fails to pass, the Legislature would have to go into special session to come up with something else quickly because the new fiscal year starts October 1.

The 1st step is to take away their pay raise they keep talking about doing-Has it been done? In fact do they get a yearly cost of living raise? Next step is to reduce all state spending allowances, trips that are not necessary that could be handled with a conference call, do away with more state vehicles, lets see them trim the budget where it hurts them we have had to do for ourselves If we give them the oil money now it will keep being given till there is nothing left I hate to say this but maybe ALL state employees need to have a 3%-5% pay cut across the board. I know and understand it will hurt because I'm living with a 50% cut the past 3 years plus look at all the people that don't have a job - I'll stop here there is so much more to say about state & federal waste of our money
