It's that time of year again as students return to the classroom -- and they're not the only ones preparing to get back into the swing of things. Getting in "back-to-school" mode is bringing teachers back to work a week early in Butler County.

From decorating classrooms, to preparing for lessons plans. This pre-planning week has teachers busy.

"Currently, I'm cleaning out file cabinets and I'd like to know where my things are so I'm an organized teacher. The worst thing in the world is to be unorganized. You have to be ready to hit the floor running on Monday morning," Said Greenville High School spanish teacher, Alisa Huggins.

"Well right now, I'm organizing my classroom and then I'm putting things up on the walls, like posters and cutting things out and just trying to decorate... making things lively and colorful for my students," Said GHS History teacher, Beth Parmer.

Students in Butler County start school in less than a week. And as for Greenville High School, that means 750 students will walk through the doors come Monday morning.

Art teacher, Stacey Edwards, says she's excited to see new and familiar faces.

"It is pretty hectic. I think the longer you do it... I don't know... the longer you do it, it's still hectic. You're still just as nervous the first day of school as the kids are!" Said Edwards.

For some teachers, it's a new beginning for them, as they teach a new subject. For others like music teacher, Millie McDonald, starting school is still exciting -- even after 45 years of teaching.

"Well, students are students and I love them all. There are always those that will be absolutely so very very talented. And then there will be those that work very very hard that you cant help but love and pull for to, you know," Said McDonald.

Butler County Superintendent, Darren Douthit, tells CBS-8 one of the major things the county school system will be gearing up for is transitioning to the state's new assessment plan. One of the objectives under the plan is to make sure every student graduates from high school by 2020.

School is back in session on August 20th.
