Calhoun High School Vandalized, Searching For Vandals

By Catalina Trivino

There's at least $10,000 worth of damage to clean up at one Lowndes County high school -- Calhoun High School officials along with Lowndes Sheriff's deputies say they're on the search for the people who vandalized and stole property from the school...

Lowndes County investigators say vandals came in over the weekend and caused all of this damage. Take a look -- this is just one of the rooms they came into... and it's this brick they used to break through the window behind me.

This is the scene Calhoun High School Principal, Kenneth Fair, walked into Monday morning -- the front office, two classrooms, the library, and several offices were torn apart. Everything from broken windows and Smart Boards; filing cabinets shaken up; items thrown everywhere.

"Audio equipment torn down, cameras taken, projectors taken. Just me, but it's vandalism at it's highest," Said Lowndes County Sheriff's Office investigator, Sgt. Lashaun Hudson.

Hudson says whoever did this also stole multiple computers and Smart Board equipment. Damages and stolen property add up to more than $10,000.

"You think of the good that the school does and the community. You think of all of the students that are affected by it in some form or fashion. You think of the parents that are affected in some form or fashion, so the next thought after shock is anger," Said the school's principal, Kenneth Fair.

And while deputies are searching for whomever matches the prints, there's also something else that helps the investigation: The vandals were caught on camera.

Investigators and school officials have yet to see that video, as it's being processed, but they say that could be the key in solving this case.

"Right now, we're in the process of finger printing the rooms and trying to assess who may have came into the school," Said Hudson.

The Lowndes County Sheriff's Office tells us they do have leads. If you have a tip, you're asked to call the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office at 334-548-2151.
