City Adds Two Outdoor Sirens

By Catalina Trivino

The city of Greenville has installed two new outdoor emergency alert sirens as part of an effort to improve early warning for severe weather...

The sirens were placed at Dunbar Park and the city's old National Guard Armory (known as Fort Robert E. Steiner), which means there are now a total of four emergency sirens in the city.

City officials say the sirens cost about $43,000, but the city only paid about a fourth of that thanks to a grant from Federal Emergency Management Agency Hazard Mitigation Grant Program.

City officials say they hope adding the new sirens will allow everyone in town to hear when there is a potentially dangerous situation.
