From Crenshaw County -- authorities are looking for answers after a murder near Highland Home...
Crenshaw County deputies say it's a death investigation that's turned into a murder. Deputies got the call around 2:45 p.m. Monday. They say it happened in the Sardis community off County Road 17, also known as Sweetwater Road.
They say an 88 year-old man, whose name is not being released, was found dead in his mobile home. Officers say say his son found him lying on the floor when he was coming over for lunch.
"I just went barely inside the door. There was a good bit of blood and the house has been torn apart, as though somebody was looking for something," Said District Attorney, Charlotte Tesmer.
Tesmer, says it looks like items in the home may have been stolen. She says deputies believe the victim's throat may have been cut, although both ABI and county deputies are still investigating the exact cause of death.
Tesmer says one witness said they last saw the victim around 8:30 a.m. Saturday on his back porch.
"You can tell there are a lot of houses here and most of the folks that live up and down this road are kin to each other or at least know each other intimately," Said Tesmer.
While deputies have been interviewing people around the area, there are no murder suspects at this time.
