Greenville High School hosted its 21st annual regional drill competition today...

JROTC drill teams from across the state came together to compete. Nine schools took part in the event, which included a rifle drill, color guard drill and an Army PT test, where they demonstrated their physical training skills.

But retired Sergeant Major, James Seale, says this competition goes beyond just drills...

"It instills discipline within them. And then it teaches them leadership principles and being in charge of a group and being able to use their initiative and dedication and being able to accomplish their mission -- [and] do the commands and do them correctly," Said Seale.

At the end of the day, the young cadets gathered for an awards ceremony to receive their trophies.
