A man's body has been pulled from a pond in Butler County today, after he drowned while fishing.

Butler County Sheriff Kenny Harden is calling what happened a tragic accident.

Harden says an elderly man drowned after the boat he and a friend were in, tipped over.

"The victim had caught a fish and stood up in the boat," he says. "When he stood up, the boat capsized with him and they were trying to make it to bank and the other one went down and didn't make it."

The pond, sits behind a white house on Spring Hill Road. It's private property, separated by barbed wire. South Butler Rescue and divers from Andalusia and Opp retrieved the body from the pond, in waters nine feet deep.

"He probably could swim but like I said, with his age and everything, circumstances with the water cold and everything, we don't know really what happened."
