Neighbors In Christ Needs Donations
By Catalina Trivino

A Montgomery group that helps crime victims may be forced to close its doors because it's out of money.

Neighbors in Christ partners with local law enforcement repairing homes that have been burglarized and cleaning up homicide and suicide scenes for nearly 25 years... all for free.
It is a group that's helped others for so long, and now the tables have turned -- it needs your help.

What would happen if a crime happened at your home in the middle of the night, leaving parts of your home damaged? While some may hire a repairman, not everyone has the money to do that.

That was the case for Kassandra Williams, who's home was broken into. It's  why she called Neighbors in Christ for help.

"I really didn't have the resources to put towards a new door or to have my door fixed so it really did save me a lot. It helped me," Said Williams.

But now, Neighbors in Christ needs your help.

Administrators say they only have $45,000 in the bank. That's enough to last only four months.

Barbara Hopkins with Neighbors in Christ says that means victim's, like Williams', wouldn't be able to get the help they need.

"They are in such need. If we aren't here to help them, there is no one. We are the type of ministry that nobody else does this but us," Said Hopkins.

Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Crime Scene investigator, Stephen Smith, says Neighbors in Christ plays a huge role in keeping the community safe after a crime has taken place.

Without it, Smith told us, "You'd either have to just board it up or just... live in fear? Or just have to leave your home altogether, which is not an option for a lot of people because they have no where else to go."

Williams fears Neighbors in Christ may no longer exist and she hopes the public will help.

"I really felt lost. I didn't know what I was going to do. And then they came to the rescue," Said Williams.

Last year, Neighbors in Christ cleaned up scenes for 239 homes. All of its supplies to fix up homes like doors and windows are bought through donations.
