One Child Dead Following Lighting StrikeA child is dead following a lightning strike in Butler county. Butler county Sheriff Kenny Hardin tells CBS 8 News that two children were hit by lightning and sent to the hospital Friday afternoon. It happened on East Dogwood Trail about eight miles outside of Greenville. Sheriff Hardin says the kids were playing in a field when it started to rain and they hid under a tree. The tree was hit by lightning. The sheriff one child died at the hospital. There is no report on the condition of the other child. The names and ages of the children have also not been released.
