Plunging Gas PricesCBS 8 News is covering Greenville, where many drivers say they're feeling less pain at the pumps. Whether you're going to work, or making summer travel plans, it's good news for your wallet: Gas prices are continuing to drop. In fact, it might not cost as much as you think. The state average has fallen about 17 cents in three weeks, according to alabamagasprices.com. But will these numbers keep dropping through the summer? Traveler, DeCarlos Holmes, remembers when numbers shot up in the spring… "In May, it was a lot higher than what it is today," Said Holmes, who has pumped gas as low as $2.99 a gallon. "It's better on my budget because I have a young son, a young child, so I mean anytime you can save at the pump or anywhere... it's good." And Phillip Burkett says the pain is easing at the pumps in comparison to what he paid last month. "Somewhere around $3.60; and it kept coming down. And now it's down to, like I said, I filled up this morning with $3.04." In Greenville, the average is down to $3.07 per gallon... three cents lower than the state average. Prices are as low as $3.03 per gallon at some gas stations. And Chevron prices have dropped as much as 14 cents in a single week. Michelle Campbell says she drives in from Georgiana to get her gas here. "Gas prices are actually lower down here than they are in Georgiana, so it's better to get gas from here then to get it from Georgiana… it's way higher then it is down here." There's even lower gas prices. According to gas.buddy.com, some drivers are paying as low as $2.98 per gallon in places like Hope Hull and Montgomery. This time last year, drivers were paying about $3.43 a gallon. |
