Summer blood shortages reaching critical low
By Catalina Trivino

The American Red Cross needs your help...

You can help save three lives with one pint of blood.

But it's getting harder to receive those blood donations... As they're currently reaching a critical low.

The Red Cross Team Supervisor says one person can use ten to twelve units of blood in an emergency situation, so it's important for people to donate.

She blames the shortage on the summer season

"it's especially low in the summertime because people are on vacations and high schools are out. And at the colleges their enrollment level is kind of low on the summertime," Said Gaston.

She says the majority of blood donations come from the Maxwell Air Force base And estimates about forty percent of all donations coming from the high schools...

So what can YOU do to help the blood shortage?

Well, Gaston says people should plan to donate at least once during the summer season.

They could also consider hosting a blood drive in their local community
