82-Year-Old Man Dead in House Fire in Hamilton Crossroads Community

By Brittany Bivins

State fire marshal officials are investigating a fatal fire in Pike County. It happened just before 11:00 Monday night on County Road 4438 in the Hamilton Crossroads community just south of Brundidge.

Firefighters say the home was completely engulfed in flames when they arrived, and found the body of 82-year-old Floyd Senn. His family says they want answers about what caused his death.

"It's rough right now for everybody, it's just really, nobody could believe this had happened. It kind of caught everybody by surprise," said Hunter Wilson, Senn's grandson.

"It's very tragic, anytime we have a loss of life involving a fire in the state. We lose on average between 80 and 120 people a year in fire losses," said Ed Paulk, State Fire Marshal.

Paulk says many fires happen this time of year because of people leaving space heaters near beds or other flammable materials. He warns Alabamians to take extra precautions, by checking their surroundings for potential fire hazards before going to bed.

The state fire marshal's office says both the cause of the fire and Floyd Senn's death remain under investigation. This is the first fire fatality of 2013 for Pike County.
