A joke made by a late night comedian doesn't have some Troy residents laughing.

Conan O'Brien made a joke about the Sunday murder in Troy at an apartment complex near the university saying, "A football player from Troy University in Alabama has been arrested for murder. Yeah so it sounds like he is ready for the NFL." O'Brien is referring to Dimitri Miles who allegedly shot and killed Marquise McLendon.

According to District Attorney Tom Anderson, Miles said in a statement he confronted the unarmed victim after he noticed his friends' apartment was being broken into. That happened on Sunday and O'Brien made the joke Monday. Some say it was too soon.

Roy Siler said, "I mean he might just be having fun, just making a joke or something but it's not really funny when somebody gets killed. Because you don't know how their parents feel, it could have been somebody else's child. It could have been mine, it could have been anybodys."

Troy University didn't comment on the Conan joke and has no plans to follow up. Miles has been suspended from the university and kicked off the football team because of the charges.
