Goshen Softball Field Coming Soon

After more than 5 years of fundraising, a high school softball team in Pike County is finally getting a field to call their own.

Today the town of Goshen presented a $10,000 check to high school principal Dr. Warren Weeks. Right now the high school and nearly 200 youth players have to share a field. The youth players have to wait a month later than everyone else to start practicing.

It's taken years to raise more than $100,000 for the project. Coach Dee Hughes, who recently died after a long battle with breast cancer, may not see the new field but school leaders credit her for taking a team that never made it to the playoffs, to going to the playoffs every year.

Dr. Warren Weeks said, "This is something I spoke to her several times before she passed and it was one of our last conversations. I said the field is a go and we've got the money and just so excited about it and she was very excited about it also." Construction is expected to begin very soon.
