Lawsuit Claims Troy City Schools Are Segregated

system is under fire over a policy that some say creates segregated classrooms. Right now parents are allowed to request a certain teacher and also for their children to be with their friends. The lawsuit filed in federal court says this policy is discriminatory and creates classes with only one race. Dejerilyn King Henderson said, "The only way these kids are going to learn to get along with other people who don't look like them, is that they are exposed to those people."

The superintendent said that once they are served with the lawsuit their attorneys will look it over. The plantiffs are not asking for monetary damages but that courts ban the 'parents choice' policy.

Superintendent Lee Hicks said, "As far as being in a classroom with a friend of theirs or anything of that nature, that's a small thing to do to make sure a student will be successful."
