Thumb Bands Raise Awareness About Texting and Driving
From the CBS 8 Troy Newsroom-- Some Troy residents are standing up to texting and driving by sporting thumb bands. Advocates are selling the "Texting Kills" thumb bands at the Piggly Wiggly on U.S. Highway 231. They're a dollar each. All money raised is going to next year's Pike County Teen Safe Driving Event, which is a program that teaches teenagers about the dangers of distracted driving. "Maybe they'll stand up and say, 'Okay. I'm not going to text and drive, or I'm not going to talk on the phone,'" says organizer Jennifer Garrett. "Or if somebody is in the car making lots of noise and jumping around, they'll tell them to calm down. Just different things to make them more aware that they have to stand up for their own safety." You can purchase the thumb bands at the following locations in Troy: Tahiti Tanz, Troy Paint and Body, Seraphim Boutique, Piggly Wiggly on Highway 231, Pike Liberal Arts School and La Bella Vida. You can also check out the PikeCountyteen SafeDriving Facebook page for more information and other fundraisers.
