Troy Alum Launches Social Media Initiative to Promote Trojan Home Opener

A Troy University alum is on a mission to pack Veterans Memorial Stadium for the Trojans' home opener against University of Louisiana-Lafayette this Saturday. It's being called "Operation 30,000," because that's how many fans need to come out to sell out the house.

Rhett Griffith, who graduated in May, says that while there are big games in Troy's future, he wanted to remind students and alums that the opener is just as imporant. "Mississippi State is an easy sell, you know, we don't have to sell that one very hard. This one is a Sunbelt opponent, so it's a little bit tougher sell," he said.

He's turning to Facebook and other social media to make that sell. He launched "Operation 30,000," a group that aims to get as many people as possible committed to going to the game. Students who had already heard about the initiative told us they found out about it through the social media site.

"Facebook reaches out to a whole spectrum of people, so that's a great way to promote the football game for this weekend," said Amber Vincent, a junior who's planning to go. Terrance Lyons, a freshman, said it's having an impact. "I think it is because it's the first home game. Everybody's hyped about the first home game, especially since the win last week against UAB," he said.
