The search is on to catch the person who shot a Union Springs store owner during an apparent attempted robbery.

Union Springs police have not released any information other than that an attempted robbery occurred Thursday night around 9.

Family members of Chubby Ward say he just closed his small store behind the Sardis Mobile Home Park when he was shot outside multiple times. They say he was hit in the abdomen, leg and hands. But, he is awake and alert in the hospital.

Police are not releasing information about suspects, but family members say they were two men in all black.

Bullock County Commission Chairman Ron Smith said, "Whether you are from Bullock County, or wherever in this world and you hear this, please pray for the family of Chubby Ward and Bullock County."

Anyone with information should contact the Union Springs Police Department at (334) 738-3131.
