From the CBS 8 Troy Newsroom-- Firefighters in Troy are getting some extra training.

During an exercise this morning, rookie firefighters learned how to use their truck's ladder properly and safely.

They practiced different situations including if a victim was injured and trapped on roof.

Firefighters say it was a great way to gain more experience.

"We want to be able to do our jobs as safe and efficient as possible," says Lt. Brandy Cox, the instructor. "By training and being efficient in our training that helps us to be safe, and also to serve the public as proficient as possible."

The fire department in Troy will hold similar training exercises throughout the year.
