By Brittany Bivins

Troy police are looking for two men they say broke into a Troy apartment before shooting one of the residents. It happened around 10:30 Tuesday night, according to Bryan Weed with the Troy Police Department.

Police say two men were returning to the apartment in the 500 block of Gibbs Street on Tuesday when they found someone had broken into the building. They found two men inside, allegedly wearing ski masks and carrying weapons. Police say one of the masked men shot one of the residents, before fleeing on foot.

According to Weed, at least one of the masked men was armed when the burglars made their getaway.

The victim, a 26-year-old man, was airlifted to UAB with injuries to his jaw and abdomen, according to police. There's no update yet on his condition, but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police say they need the public's help to find the shooters. If you have any information, contact the Troy Police Department at 566-0500 or the secret witness line at 566-5555.
