Troy Univ. Police Make Arrest in Armed Robbery on Campus

From the CBS 8 Troy Newsroom-- Troy University Police say students should feel safer after they arrested a man in connection with an armed robbery on campus and are receiving a grant for additional lighting.

Troy University Police Chief John McCall says he and his team have been working around the clock to make campus feel safe again, and says so far, he believes they've made great progress.

28-year-old Quentin King of Troy was arrested last night in Arrow Wood Estates in Troy.

Police say King was armed when he robbed a student in front of the Math and Science Complex on campus on April 1.

"He had trespassed on campus approximately two years ago after committing some crimes here on campus," says McCall. "We had not found him on campus, but when we did talk to him last night, he did admit that he was on campus quite frequently."

Some students say this incident has brought up safety concerns, and at a town hall meeting held the day after the robbery, many said more lighting is needed.

"State E.M.A. and State Homeland Security were able to get us $32,000 to get us new lights," says McCall.

Police say the new lights will replace the borrowed units that are in Sorority Hill and behind Hawkins Hall.

"There are a lot of spots that are dark at night, like really dark, because we have so many trees and so much hidden spots, so it's nice to know we're getting more light," says student Heidi Collier.

Police say the grant will allow them to purchase four new lighting units, and those hopefully will be on campus sometime next week.

Police say King is being held in the Pike County Jail on a $100,000 bond. They say he is on probation for breaking and entering charges and fraudulent use of credit cards.
