From the CBS 8 Troy Newsroom-- Last summer, more than 60 people were arrested at a Troy University fraternity party. To makes amends, that fraternity is working with the new Troy alumni chapter and focusing on helping the community.

Fraternity members say they did take an alcohol and drug awareness class put on by Alcoholic Beverage Control board agents and say they will be putting on a similar event this year to educate their peers.

Troy University's Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity says they're putting the past behind them, and concentrating on volunteer work.

Kappa Alpha Psi alumni and members say this is what they're all about: giving back to the community. Thursday night, the new alumni chapter in Troy and active members fed Pike County senior citizens at the Colley Senior Complex.

Alumni say the purpose of the graduate chapter is to serve the community and provide support to younger members.

"We would be an example, a role model if you will, not only for the undergraduate brothers but for all young men," says Jerome Solomon, the alumni chapter founder.

Since last July, members say they've been repairing their image. More than 60 people were arrested for various alcohol and drug charges at their university-approved party at the Pine's Restaurant in downtown Troy.

"That's just one social event. We have plenty of philanthropy and community service projects that we do around the city of Troy as well as Dothan and other counties," says active member Arthur Williams.

"We will put the past behind, and let the public know what we are truly about. Giving back to the community," says alumni chapter member Andre Pollard.

Fraternity members say they're continuously volunteering throughout the year. The alumni chapter also plans on working with the Pike Regional Child Advocacy Center and Boys and Girls Club.
