Tuition Going Up at Troy University for 2013-2014 School Year
By Alabama News Network

Schools are out for summer, but Troy University students can expect a surprise on their upcoming school bills. Tuition is going up.

The Troy Board of Trustees unanimously approved tuition hikes.

The university needs to balance the 2014 budget, so the increase will raise an extra $11.18 million and will be matched by $11.9 million in spending cuts.

Troy was cut five percent in state funding for this past school year, and is expected to only regain one percent for the 2013-2014 term.

Senior Vice Chancellor for Finance and Business Affairs Jim Bookout said a decline in enrollment contributed to the budget shortfall.

Troy still ranks seventh lowest in the state when it comes to total cost, but Bookout says, no one will be laid off in the budget cuts.
