From the CBS 8 West Alabama Newsroom -- Hundreds of workers at a plant in Demopolis are now facing uncertain futures after learning the place where they work will be shut down.

The decision to close the Demopolis facility was announced yesterday.
Company officials say the weak economy made it necessary for the company to consolidate it's U-S manufacturing operation into a single facility.

A plant in Derby, New York was chosen over the one in Demopolis.

"We kind of figured that was going to happen because it costs a lot of money to do all the things that had to be done in order for us to keep the job and the city and all the people did what they had to do to help us but it just didn't work," said New Era employee Eddye Carter.
