From the CBS 8 West Alabama Newsroom -- The 2010 Census could turn the town of Valley Grande into the second largest city in Dallas County.

Mayor Tom Lee says an accurate census count will also help with economic development in Valley Grande. He says it could improve the ability to provide services to residents.

Lee estimates the town's population has more than doubled since it's incorporation in 2003.

"We're technically known as the town of Valley Grande and not the city of Valley Grande and there are differences between what a town can apply for in respect to different grants and what a city can apply for," said Lee.

Lee says it takes a population of at least 2-thousand people to be considered a city. He estimates Valley Grande's population at about 4500 people.
